Follow our care and maintenance tips to keep your garage door looking great and performing well for longer.

Taking care of the hardware and tracks on your door is as easy as 1, 2, 3!

Some simple maintenance done every six months will keep your garage door running smoothly and quietly. If your garage door is constantly being opened and closed or is exposed to salty air or industrial dust, this should be done every 2-3 months.

STEP 1

Use CRC 5-56 or WD40 spray to lubricate all moving parts. Follow the application guidelines on the product, wear safety glasses to protect your eyes from possible splashes and have a rag handy to wipe up any drips.
Please note, if any moving part or track needs adjustment, call our team of Knights.

STEP 2

Use a dry, light brush to remove any corrosive debris from the guide tracks i.e. heavy industrial dust or salt from open water sources. Please note, do not use grease or oil on the guide tracks, they must be kept clean to work smoothly.

STEP 3

For domestic or residential use we recommend getting a service every 12 months or every 6-12 months for commercial use. Doors in high usage must be serviced every 3-6 months. Contact our team of Knights to book your next service or to repair your garage door.

Keep your garage door clean

Regularly cleaning your garage door will keep it looking great and remove any particles that may damage or corrode the surface.

Roller & sectional doors

Every 3 months use a soft bristled brush and clean water to clear corrosive contaminants such as salt water from the steel. If you’re close to open water or industrial sites, make sure to clean your door every month.

Cedar door maintenance - Knight Garage DoorsCedar & timber sectional doors

Remove any debris from the cedar panels and ensure the door is completely dry before applying any finishing product.

We highly recommend using CD50 stain on our cedar and timber doors. If you’re using other paints or stains, follow the product guidelines and make sure to coat both sides of each panel. Reapply your finish according to the manufacturer’s guidelines. Generally, if your cedar door was installed already coated,  reapply the same oil coating within 30 days and then every 12 months.

Note that:

  • All cedar material must be coated or sealed prior to installation.
  • Dark stain or paint should be avoided and will void the warranty.
  • Failing to follow the product application guideline will void the warranty.
